Origin story & oral tradition
The Tachoni (Batachoni) are closely related to the Bukusu and share origins around Mount Elgon. Their founding ancestor Mutachoni is said to have split from the Bukusu lineage after a dispute. The Tachoni migrated westward and settled in present-day Lugari and Turbo areas of Kakamega and Uasin Gishu counties. They share the circumcision tradition with the Bukusu and maintain close cultural and clan ties with them.
