Origin story & oral tradition
The Nyore (Abanyore) settled in present-day Emuhaya and Vihiga areas. Their founding ancestor Onyore is remembered in oral tradition as a wise leader who guided his people to fertile land in the Yala River valley. The Nyore share close cultural and linguistic ties with the Maragoli, who are their immediate neighbours. They are known for their iron-smelting traditions and skilled craftsmanship.
