Origin story & oral tradition
The Nyala (Abanyala) are found in two distinct areas: Abanyala ba Kakamega in Kakamega County and Abanyala ba Nambale in Busia County, suggesting separate migration paths. Some historians propose that the Nyala may have origins distinct from the core Luhya migration, possibly related to earlier Bantu inhabitants of the region. Despite this, they are fully integrated into the Luhya cultural sphere and share the same language family.
