Origin story & oral tradition
The Maragoli (Avalogoli) trace their ancestry to Mulogoli, who led his people southward from the region of present-day Sudan through Uganda before settling in the highlands of present-day Vihiga County. Mulogoli had several sons whose descendants became the various Maragoli clans. Despite being one of the smallest territories, the Maragoli are one of the most populous Luhya sub-tribes, known for high population density and a strong tradition of education and migration to urban centres.
