Origin story & oral tradition
The Kabras (Abakabras) settled in the Malava and Kabras areas of northern Kakamega County. Their founding ancestor Mukabras led the group westward from Mount Elgon in a migration linked to the broader Luhya movement. The Kabras are neighbours of the Tachoni and Bukusu to the north and east, and the Isukha and Idakho to the south. They are known for their sugarcane farming and maintain distinct clan structures and initiation traditions.
