Origin story & oral tradition
The Idakho (Abaidakho) settled in the central Kakamega area. Their founding ancestor Mwidakho is said to have migrated from the Mount Elgon region alongside the Isukha, with whom they share close linguistic and cultural ties. The Idakho and Isukha are sometimes grouped together as they inhabit adjacent territories and their dialects are mutually intelligible. The Idakho homeland lies in present-day Shinyalu and Ikolomani areas of Kakamega County.
