How they identify
Man (singular)Aicakamũyũ
Origin story & oral tradition
Descended from Wamuyu (also Warigia/Wanjugu), the 10th and unmarried daughter. The Kikuyu say their clans are 'kenda muiyuru' (nine-full) rather than ten, to avoid bringing bad omen by counting people to the last number.
Totem & taboos
  • Cannot marry within the Aicakamũyũ muhiriga
  • Marrying within your father's clan is forbidden (clan exogamy)
Naming conventions
Named after Waicakamũyũ, youngest daughter of Mumbi. Sometimes counted as a sub-clan rather than a full muhiriga.
