About this language family
A branch of the Afroasiatic family spoken primarily in the Horn of Africa and parts of East Africa. Includes Oromo, Somali, Afar, and Rendille. Cushitic-speaking communities historically inhabited much of the East African highlands before the Nilotic and Bantu expansions, leaving lasting cultural influences including the age-set system adopted by the Kalenjin.
